To help commemorate Veterans Day in the Castle Country, the American Legion, in conjunction with Price City, is preparing for its annual Veterans Day Ceremony in the Price City Peace Garden on Tues, Nov. 11.

11/11/11 holds a major significance for the celebration, as on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the armistice with Germany went into effect, signaling the end of World War I. American Legion Post Three Commander Kelly Madsen explained the modern significance of this moment: “In World War I, that was the ending of all hostilities, and the guns went silent. So it started as Armistice Day, but then eventually it became Veterans Day.”

Beginning promptly at 11 a.m., Madsen also shared the schedule of events: “We have a little speech, and then we will be firing our rifles and we’ll be around if anybody wants to talk or anything like that. It’s just a nice time to visit and get out there.”

The program also features the presentation of the colors by local veterans and a performance of the national anthem by Michelle Broadhead. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, and breakfast provided by Intermountain Electronics and USU Eastern Sun Center.

Following the festivities, IGotPoop and Balance Rock Eatery have partnered to provide free lunches and hats to veterans across Castle Country.

“It’s just a nice way to support the veterans that are still around,” expressed Madsen. “This is just to show support for the veterans that are still here and are active in the communities, and potentially the ones that you might know out of that are still in the service that aren’t able to be here at home.”

The American Legion Veterans Day ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Price City Peace Garden.
