Last week at Sugarhouse Park, the Utah High School Activities Association held the State Cross Country Championships. While the Carbon Dinos finished in second place, senior Rozlyn Stowe closed out her high school cross-country career with her third individual State Championship.

Stowe got her first win as a freshman in a Dino uniform on August 13, 2022, at the Premier Cross Country Invitational. Running in a meet with schools from the 1A-4A ranks, she earned a first-place finish with her time of 18:10.4, almost a full minute ahead of Ethan Stevens of Juan Diego, and her time of 19:06. She would follow that up with six more first-place finishes, her first individual State Championship, and a team title for the Lady Dinos. She would end the season in December, earning a first-place finish at the CHAMPS Sports Cross Country West Regional Championships in California, going against other freshmen from the western United States.

For her sophomore campaign, Stowe picked up right where she left off, collecting the top spot in the first match of the season and collecting seven first-place finishes, including back-to-back individual State Championships.

For her junior season, Stowe would be nursing a pretty significant injury to start the year, but she didn’t let that stop her as she worked her way back. She raced only five times that season, earning a pair of second-place finishes and a trio of third-place finishes, including one at the State Championships, and another State Championship for the Lady Dinos. On November 23, she would compete in the NXR Southwest Regional Championships in Arizona, earning first place against a field of 258 runners from throughout the region.

This year, she would take no prisoners. Stowe finished first every time she stepped on a course, starting with the Premier Cross Country Invitational, where her first-place time of 17:09.6 was almost two minutes faster than second place. On September 13 at Border Wars, she ran a time of 17:03.1, placing her among the top 10 runners in 12 western states. The culmination of her senior campaign was her third individual State Championship.

On October 15, in front of the home crowd for the final time, Stowe earned her third Region championship with a twenty-second cushion between her and Addy Guymon of Emery. Stowe was also named the Eastern Utah Athlete of the week and took time to interview with KOAL’s Drive Time Sports after the race to talk about her journey.

“This year has definitely been an amazing year for me because last year, being injured and coming back, it was really tough for me. Because I came back halfway through the year, so the rest of that year (2024-2025) was really tough, but I’m glad I stuck it out and stayed consistent, and now it’s really paying off, and I’m really just happy that I can have fun with it and push myself and be healthy.”

Stowe has committed to run at Utah Valley University, but before she heads off for Orem, we will get one more chance to follow her as she prepares for the upcoming Lady Dino track season, where she will, of course, run distances.
