Emery County’s ongoing war against drug trafficking continues, as the Emery County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office for a joint drug investigation.

This partnership paid off on Sunday, Nov. 9, as the two departments were able to seize 70 pounds of methamphetamine, 12.4 pounds of marijuana and 2.2 pounds of cocaine during a vehicle search.

All the substances seized in the operation are classified by the federal government as Schedule 1 drugs, meaning they have a high potential for abuse and addiction, and no federally recognized medical use.

“Our relationship with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office continues to provide a great service to our communities. We appreciate Sheriff (Jamison) Wiggins and his deputies,” reads a statement from ECSO. “This investigation involved other states and jurisdictions, so the Department of Homeland Security is involved in this case. The investigation is ongoing.”

This announcement marks the second publicized seizure from the pairing, the first coming in September when deputies from each organization seized approximately 39 pounds of crack cocaine and 10 pounds of marijuana.
