On Tuesday evening, the Lady Dino basketball squad began their 2025-2026 campaign by welcoming the San Juan Broncos to Jurassic Park. Carbon used big second and third quarters to close out the Broncos 53-35.
The Lady Dinos closed out last season with a 7-18 overall mark, going 4-10 in region play. They entered the State Championships ranked No. 14 and claimed a 76-13 win over Ben Lomond in the opening round, but fell to South Summit 51-50 in double overtime in their next game.
The game started quietly for both teams as they were getting back into the swing of things. The Lady Dinos got on the board first and, by the end of the quarter, held an 8-3 lead. In the second quarter, the Dinos took over, outscoring the Broncos 19-9 and taking a 27-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Carbon jumped out quickly once again in the second half, maintaining the lead that they built in the first half, and adding more as they would grow their lead to 44-21 heading into the fourth. The Lady Dinos left their foot off the gas in the final eight minutes, and San Juan took advantage, outscoring the Dinos in the quarter 14-9 as Carbon would hold on to get the victory, moving to 1-0 this season.
Saren Nelson led all scorers with 13 in the contest. Harley Hopes had 10 and Bailey Johnson eight in the win.
After taking Wednesday off, the Lady Dinos will travel to Roosevelt for the Battle in the Basin Tournament hosted by Union. Over the three days, they will face teams from Uintah, Canyon View, Grand, and Duchesne.
They will return home on Tuesday to take on the Richfield Wildcats.
