
The Emery Spartan swim team competed in Richfield on Thursday, facing swimmers from Grand, Manti, and Carbon, as well as the host Wildcats. Both the girls’ and the boys’ squads turned in dominant performances on their way to a pair of first-place finishes.
The Lady Spartans claimed the top spot, scoring 529 points, and Carbon followed with 307. The host, Richfield, finished third with 292, Grand was in fourth with 288, and Manti finished fifth with 130.
Relays were huge for the Lady Spartans with four top-five finishes. In the 200 medley, Grace Allen, Jessie Childs, Illyria Mason, and Brooklyn O’Neil claimed first with the time of 2:10.99; the team of Lily White, Laycee Winn, Sydney Lake, and Hadley Meccariello finished third. In the 400 free, Mason, Lake, Meccariello, and Annie Johansen swam to a first-place finish, turning in a time of 3:59.13. Abbie Gardner, Maggie Jeffs, Abbie Moulton, and White finished fourth. In the 200 free, Johansen, O’Neil, Allen, and Childs finished in second.
The Lady Spartans had some terrific individual performances as well, with Mason claiming a first-place finish in the backstroke with her time of 1:12.92 and taking second in the 50 free. Johansen took first in the 200 IM, turning in 2:46.01, and claimed a second-place finish in the backstroke. O’Neil finished first in the breaststroke with 1:23.07, also claiming fifth in the 50 free. Childs claimed a second-place in the 100 free and third in the 50. Allen took third in the 100 fly, Jeffs claimed third in the backstroke, and Lake took third in the 500.
The Spartans also earned the top spot on the boys’ side of the pool, collecting 503 points; host Richfield claimed second with 435, and Carbon came in third, scoring 306. Manti (150) and Grand (40) rounded out the remainder of the field.
The boys claimed a pair of top finishes and a fourth-place relay finish. In the 200 free, Thomas Black, Reve Mason, Jacob Morris, and Trek Petersen turned in a time of 1:39.18. In the 200 medley, Black, Mason, Paterson, and Brekker Bunnell earned another top finish in their time of 1:46.90; Jaxon Durant, Robert Bennett, Cody Howard, and Corbin Madsen took fifth. In the 400 free, Bennett, Durrant, Morris, and Howard finished third, while Jaden Reed, Kort Johnson, Logan O’Neil, and Madsen finished fourth.
Individually, Mason earned a first-place finish in the 200 IM with his time of 2:14.17 and a third-place finish in the breaststroke. Black swam to a first-place finish in the 50 free, turning in a time of 24.00. He went on to earn a second-place finish in the 500 free. Petersen claimed second on the breaststroke, with Morris taking third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100. Bunnell finished third in the 100 as well. Howard had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 100 and the breaststroke. Madsen took fourth in the backstroke, Tayden Rasmussen went fourth in the 500 free, Bennett took fifth in the 500, and Durrant earned fifth in the backstroke.
Emery is back in the pool on Tuesday, when they will welcome Carbon and Grand to Castle Dale.
The meet is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
