Fresh off a 74-63 victory over the Tooele Buffaloes to open the season, the Carbon Dinos took the court for their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as they faced the Uintah Utes. Carbon started fast and never looked back as a showtime offense powered the Dinos past the Utes 70-55.
Opening the contest, Carbon capitalized on several Uintah turnovers and built a quick 12-2 advantage midway through the first frame. This stifling defensive effort continued throughout the quarter as Carbon closed the first up 25-8.
Uintah attempted to battle back in the second frame, but every point scored by the Utes was matched in kind by the Dinos, forcing an even 17-17 quarter. This stalemate allowed Carbon to enter the halftime break with a 42-25 advantage.
The Dinos lead slipped in the third – the sole quarter the Utes won – as Carbon was outscored 16-8, helping cut into the once-insurmountable Dinos lead. Heading into the final frame of action, Carbon clung to a 50-41 lead.
Despite the rocky third quarter, the Dinos came back swinging in the fourth, pouring in 20 points while holding Uintah to 14. In addition to the high-powered offensive effort, the Dinos’ defense proved crucial, forcing 19 turnovers in the contest. As a result, Carbon came away with a 70-55 victory in the home opener.
Leading the way in the scoring column for the Dinos was Carter Warburton, who poured in 16 points. Also in double-digits were Kyler Orth with 14, Logan Bennett with 11 and Jackson Bosone with 10. As a team, Carbon shot 18-22 from the charity stripe.
“We just try to do the same things,” said Head Coach Taylor Brower following the contest. “We play with some principles, and I make sure to reiterate that in every timeout, and we try to set some goals in every timeout as well. We just try and make sure that we play the game that we want to.”
The win moves the Dinos to 2-0 on the season, with a tough road test coming up next as Carbon travels to South Summit for a showdown with the Wildcats on Dec. 3. That game will be streamed on KRPX 95.3 the Peak and on YouTube at Castle Country Radio – Carbon.
