On Saturday, the Emery Spartan boys basketball squad closed out their weekend at the Bear River Classic, facing the Northridge Knights. Behind a massive game from Porter Sitterud, who scored 29, the Spartans were able to come out on top in this hard-fought contest, 67-60.
With the win, Emery moved to 6-2 overall, with those two losses coming at the hands of American Leadership and Bear River.
The contest started very quietly, almost as if both teams were trying to see what the other would do, as Emery battled its way to a 9-6 lead after one. If the first quarter was about trying to patiently see what the other team was up to, in the second, all of that was thrown out the window, as they each found their offense as both teams seemed to score at will, with Emery taking a 29-23 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was more of the same, but this time Northridge found a slight edge, outscoring the Spartans by one, but Emery held on to the slight lead, 48-43. The final eight minutes were as much of a battle as the rest of the contest, but the Spartans held on to close out Northridge 67-60 and finished the weekend 2-1 at the tournament.
Porter Sitterud led all scorers with 29 in the game, grabbing a pair of rebounds and dishing out two assists. Brek Griffin had 18, grabbing 11 boards and a trio of assists. Maddex Taney added eight points with three assists and rebounds, and Garrett Conover had seven, grabbing eight boards in the win for Emery.
Emery will welcome in the San Juan Broncos to the Spartan Center on Wednesday in a non-region tilt.
