Our sweet Mama joined her celestial “boyfriend” and returned to our Heavenly Father on December 8, 2025 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Regina, New Mexico to George and Mary Hatch on August 21,1939.

Her family had the opportunity to move around with her dad’s work and they eventually moved to Green River and opened the Hatch Mercantile. This is when she met our Daddy and their love story began. It was a love story that stayed with her even as she moved back to Regina, New Mexico her senior year. She graduated from Cuba, New Mexico high school. She was voted “most beautiful” and enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball. After she graduated, she went to business school in Albuquerque and lived with her sister, Elgin while she was in nursing school. But our Mama really missed our Daddy.

Her Mom talked about how they had become friends with the King family in Green River and when Mom started dating Daddy, she wondered about those two.

So, Mama surprised her family and announced her engagement, they were married on February 15, 1958 in the Hatch home in Regina, New Mexico. She loved him fiercely and we always told her you cannot go before Dad because no one can care for him like you!

With her marriage, she began a 13-year pursuit of multiplying and replenishing the earth, where Dad said she had no birth-control, and he had no self-control, and brought 7 heifers and 2 bull calves into the world. Dad said they finally realized they did not have to do it by themselves. In 1990, our third brother came to help Dad on the farm, Martin became their son in every way and helped with all the operations of King Land and Livestock. They welcomed Gloria as their daughter and their three sons as their grandsons.

Mama loved to dance and sing and soon had her tribe singing and performing. One memorable song was, “We’re proud to be a family from Green River!”

Mama was a great cook and became famous especially for her homemade bread. She was so skilled at her bread, Dad said he should quit the cow business and open a bread business. When King Land and Livestock had built a name of quality Limousin cattle, we started having Bull Sales and every buyer was awarded a loaf of Mama’s homemade bread. Dad always said the bread would go for more than the cow! Bread became a way to serve her family and her community. If you live in Green River there is a good chance, she delivered a loaf of bread to you when she was worried about you!

She had a deep love for all people. At church she went early, she had a hug and a greeting for everyone who entered, even the visitors. She valued her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and thoroughly loved serving as Young Women President, Relief Society President, and teaching the gospel, but her favorite calling was after she was deemed legally blind. Loving to serve, she wondered what she could do to serve. She was so humbled by her calling to make the bread for the sacrament each week. She continued this calling up until the last few years of her life.

She supported all her children and grandchildren at their events and was known for yelling, “you’re the cutest” across the gymnasium floor.

She loved babies and is expecting her 97th great-grandchild and was a great example of what a Mama should be. She left her daughters with the desire to emulate her every act of motherhood.

She is survived by her ten children, Dee (Tom) Maughan, Stacy King, Tonya (Kerry) Bigelow, Doree (Mike) Russell, Darin (Julie) King, Haven (Jon) Bodnar, Anissa (Glen) Carlson, Race (Shelly) King, Sage King, and Martin (Gloria) Mendez; 42 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; sister, Elgin Strohecker; brother, Carl Hatch; and brother, Alan Hatch.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Dean; parents, George and Mary Hatch; sisters, Georgie, Reva, and Bonnie; and grandson, Keston Roundy.
