Wednesday evening, the Carbon Dinos welcomed the Richfield Wildcats to Jurassic Park. The two teams shared Region 12 in the past, so it was a very familiar feeling when the Dinos squared off with them. Richfield put up 29 in the opening quarter, and although Carbon would get close, the Wildcats took the 64-57 win.
This will be the first time since the 2018-2019 season that the Wildcats and Dinos haven’t been in the same region. In that time, Richfield dominated the court, winning the region title multiple times.
In the first half, the Wildcats came out and scored at will, putting 29 points on the board and defensively holding the Dinos to 16. Carbon then went on the offensive in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 12-8 to take a 28-27 lead to the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Dinos would once again outscore the Wildcats, this time 12-6, but the Wildcats did just enough to regain the lead 43-40 as both teams headed to the fourth and final quarter. Richfield turned the offense back on for the final eight minutes and used that time to build their lead back up and earned a 64-57 win.
Logan Bennett led the Dinos with 15 points, a pair of rebounds, and an assist. Kyler Orth added 12 with a rebound and an assist, and Ty Motensen scored 11 and grabbed four boards in the loss.
Carbon will travel to Green River to face the Pirates on Friday evening.
