The Lady Spartans were on the road Wednesday evening to face the American Heritage Patriots. A big second quarter, plus a season high 26 points from Kabree Gordon, put Emery over the top 78-61, moving them to 5-2 this season.
The Lady Spartans started the season with a pair of wins over Canyon View and Duchesne, and then followed that up with back-to-back losses to North Summit and Beaver. With the win on Wednesday, they have now won three in a row.
In the opening quarter, both teams seemed to score at will, combining for 43 points, and American Heritage held a one-point edge, 22-21. In the second, Emery had everything working. Defensively, they held the Patriots to 12 points, but offensively, the Lady Spartans dropped 28 to take a 49-34 lead at halftime.
The second half was a slower pace, but Emery didn’t give an inch, outscoring American Heritage 15-12 in the third. In the fourth, the Patriots would give it one final push to take the lead and get the win; however, the Spartans kept them just on the outside looking in as Emery would collect the 78-61 victory.
Gordon led the Lady Spartans with 26 points, five rebounds three steals and an assist. Aleeyah Cowley added 19 with ten boards, and Megan Stilson had 12 points with eight steals, three rebounds, and an assist in the win.
Emery will be back at it on Thursday as they welcome the Juab Wasps to the Spartan Center.
Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m..
