As the volatility of the beef and cattle market continues into 2026, Utah State University Extension is providing a resource for cattlemen across the Castle Country as it prepares to host its Price Beef Field Day on Friday, Jan. 9.
Steven Price from Extension joined the KOAL newsroom to discuss the event and share some of the seminar’s benefits.
“For many years, USU Extension has held a kind of statewide beef workshop, and that’s mostly been in Logan. Last year, it traveled down to Richfield,” share Price of the event’s origin. “This year, we really wanted to be able to reach more cattlemen, so we’re hosting five different workshops. Our southeast regional workshop will be here in Price, and we’re just talking about best management practices and different topics.”
Looking at the topics that will be covered at Beef Field Day, Price explained,” We’re gonna start off with marketing and outlook. So, talking a little bit about those different factors that affect cattle price, maybe even some of our weather-related effects that can cause market fluctuation. So we’ll be talking about that, and something that’s probably on people’s minds, or always is on our minds, is preparing for and dealing with drought. Ways that you can do some different things with your cattle herd to get through drought times.”
He continued,” To wrap up the afternoon, we’ll have some talks about nutrition supplementation and reproductive efficiency.”
Registration for the event is currently open on Eventbrite. Attendance costs $20 per person, with a $10 discount for students, and all attendees receive lunch as part of the event.
“Join us, we’ll feed you and hopefully give you a little bit of education as well,” expressed Price, closing our conversation.
USU Extension’s Beef Field Day will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the Campus of USU Eastern. Registration is open online on Eventbrite or by calling the Extension office at 435-636-3233 for Carbon County and 435-381-3535 for Emery County.
