
The Spartan Swim team traveled to Tooele over the weekend to take part in the Mel Roberts Invitational. With 11 teams in the girls’ division, the Lady Spartans came away with a first-place finish. The boys’ division had 12 teams competing, and the Emery squad took second.
Uintah followed the Lady Spartans in second. Tooele, Carbon, and Stansbury rounded out the top five.
In the relay competition, the Lady Spartan team of Jessie Childs, Hallie Frandsen, Illyria Mason, and Brooklyn O’Neil finished first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:51.25; the same team finished second in the 200 medley. Grace Allen, Kate Bell, Emma Grimm, and Annie Johnson would finish the 400 relay in second.
Individually, Mason went on to take third in both the 100 back and 50 free, and Frandsen took third in the 100 fly.
In the boys’ division, Uintah finshed in first, followed by Emery in second, with Stansbury, Carbon, and Cedar Valley making up the rest of the top five.
Trek Petersen earned the only top finish individually for the boys’ team in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.91. He also claimed a fourth-place finish in the 50 free. Thomas Black earned a pair of third-place spots in the 50 free and the 100 back as well. Reve Mason took a pair of fourth-place finishes in both the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard fly.
In relays, Black, Mason, Petersen, and Jamison Christiansen took third place in both the 200 medley and 200 free.
The Spartans will be back in the pool after the first of the year when they welcome Richfield and Manti to the Aquatic Center for a tri-meet.
