The Carbon Dino boys’ basketball squad got back on the court after Christmas, starting on Monday with a trip to Cedar City to take part in the Hodson Classic, playing three games in as many days. Carbon got going against the Dixie High Flyers. A rough third quarter was the Dinos’ undoing, falling to the Flyers 82-51.
This was the first time the Dinos had been on the court since December 19, when they lost to Delta. Carbon holds a 4-7 mark overall and sits in the No. 12 spot.
The Flyers came out in the first quarter and seemingly scored at will, putting up 26 points against Carbon and defensively holding the Dinos to 16, as Dixie grabbed the lead and never looked back. Carbon couldn’t find its offense in the second quarter, and Dixie kept up the scoring barrage as they would take a 47-32 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was a letdown for the Dinos as they only managed six points, and the Flyers opened their lead even further, scoring 19 in the period and holding a 66-38 advantage heading into the final eight minutes. Carbon couldn’t create enough offense to overcome the deficit in the fourth, falling to Dixie 82-51.
Carter Warburton led the Dinos with 15. Ty Mortensen scored nine while Cash Withers and Jackson Bosone collected six in the loss.
Carbon will look to get into the win column on Tuesday when they face Stansbury at 2:00 p.m..
