On Sunday, Jan. 4, the Wellington Police Department posted a bulletin announcing the retirement of Chief Tom Kosmack, who has served in the position since 2021, effective Feb. 1, 2026. Kosmack’s retirement signals the end of a 30 year career in law enforcement.
“Chief Kosmak’s leadership, commitment, and integrity have left a lasting impact on the department and those serving with him,” reads the bulletin.
Born and raised in Helper, Kosmak got his start as a full-time officer in Roosevelt in 1995 before becoming an officer with adult probation and parole, where he spent 16 years with the Region six office covering Carbon, Emery, Grand, Duchesne, and Uintah counties.
In 2021, he was named Wellington’s chief, a move he described at the time as “excited” about.
A retirement celebration for Kosmak will be held on Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office in Price, Utah. “Let’s come together to honor Chief Kosmak and wish him well in retirement,” concludes the bulletin from the department.
