The Utah State Eastern women’s basketball team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play with conference foe, No. 18 Salt Lake Community College.

The two teams opened the game trading baskets, but a late push from the Eagles gave them a 14-11 lead after the first quarter. The Bruins responded in the second frame, outscoring the Eagles by three points. The two teams went into the break tied at 32. Addasyn Scrivner led the Eagles with 10 points at the half.

The Eagles opened the second half ready to take control of the game. Dominating the Bruins early in the third quarter, the Eagles led by as many as 12 points in the period. Eastern went into the final period leading 55-45. The Bruins attempted a comeback, but thanks to clutch free-throw shooting in the final minutes, the Eagles held on for the upset, 70-66.

Skylie Barker led the Eagles with 17 points on 8-12 shooting. Addasyn Scrivner added 16 to also finish with double figures.

Next for the Eagles is a home game against the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans. The game is set to begin at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
