The Lady Spartans basketball squad closed out their pre-season slate on Tuesday night when the Salem Hills Skyhawks came to the Spartan Center. Emery meticulously built its lead and closed out the Skyhawks 56-44.

Emery ended the pre-season with a 7-6 record and holds the No. 3 spot in the latest rankings by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association, with eight games remaining on the regular season schedule.

Getting things going in the first, the Lady Spartans doubled up the Skyhawks, taking a 14-7 lead after one. In the second, Emery found their offense and defense scoring 18 and holding the Skyhawks to 10, as Emery went to the locker room up 32-15 at halftime.

In the third, Emery had more in the tank as they added 15 to the scoreboard to go to the final quarter up 47-28. In the fourth, the Lady Spartans just needed to maintain the lead they had built as Salem Hills scored 16, but Emery held them off, taking the 56-44 win.

Carlie Hurst scored 11, grabbing three rebounds and three steals for Emery. Elli Stoker scored 10 with two boards. Addie Hurst and Aleeyah Cowley each scored seven, with Cowley adding 12 rebounds, an assist, and a steal, and Addie Hurst adding one steal in the win.

The Spartans are back on the court Thursday as they welcome the Manti Templars to start region play.

Game time will be 7:00 p.m. at the Spartan Center.
