The mood was jubilant at Orangeville city hall on Monday, Jan. 5, as members of the public gathered to witness the new city council sworn in. The body also delegated responsibilities for the year, including that of mayor pro tem.
Beginning with Mayor Sean Bell, who ran his 2025 reelection campaign unopposed, City Recorder Amanda Lake administered the oath of office. During this oath, Bell swore to support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Utah while fulfilling the duties of his office.
Following Bell, the newly elected city council members also took the oath. Kari Alton, Kirk McQuivey, Kevin Butler and David McKee all accepted the same vows as Bell.
In a social media post following the meeting, Butler shared excitement for the start of his term, stating,” I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and excited to begin my second term in office!”
Rounding out the affair, the body appointed a mayor pro tem. Mayor Bell explained that Alton had expressed interest in the position, and with no opposition from the council, he would seek to move ahead with the move.
Following this, the meeting was adjourned.
Meetings of the Orangeville City Council take place on the second Thursday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m. in Orangeville City Hall.
