Emery swimmers welcomed Richfield and Manti to the Emery Aquatic Center in Castle Dale on Tuesday. This was the first meet that the Spartans have competed in since December 19 & 20 in Tooele for the Mel Roberts Invitational. The meet was a success for Emery as both teams earned first-place finishes.

The Spartans have just three more meets before the Regional Tournament at Carbon on January 30.

In the girls’ division, the Lady Spartans claimed first place with 531 points. Richfield finished in second with 300, and Manti came in third, scoring 124.

The Lady Spartans owned the relays, with three first-place and a pair of second-place finishes. In the 200 medley, Jessie Childs, Hallie Frandsen, Illyria Mason, and Brooklyn O’Neil turned in a time of 2:07.13 for first, and the Emery team of  Gracie Allen, Kate Bell, Emma Grimm, and Annie Johansen finished in second. Allen, Grimm, O’Neil, and Hadley Meccariello finished in first in the 200 free with their time of 2:02.59. Emery’s 400 free team of Childs, Frandsen, Johansen, and Mason took first place, turning in a time of 4:21.18

There were plenty of first-place spots for the Lady Spartans in individual events as well. Childs claimed two top finishes in the 50 free with her time of 28.92 and the 100 fly at 1:15.32. Frandsen would grab a pair of first-place wins. In the 200 IM, she turned in the top time of 2:39.27, and in the 100-yard breaststroke, her time of 1:24.82 earned her a podium finish. Mason took first in the 200 free with a time of 2:26.43 and another in the 100 free with 1:02.03. Johansen earned first-place in the grueling 500 free, turning in a time of 6:40.41.

Allen had a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 free and the 100-yard breaststroke. O’Neil earned a pair as well in the 200 IM and 100 free, and Bell claimed second in the 100-yard backstroke. Sydni Lake finished second in the 100 fly, and Kaila Martineau took second in the 500 free.

In the boys’ division, it was Emery taking the crown with 494 points. Richfield came in second with 338, and Manti third with 123.

Relays were key to the boys’ success as well. In the 200 medley, Thomas Black, Jamison Christiansen, Tyler Daley, and Trek Petersen finished in first, turning in a time of 1:47.37. In the 200 free, Black, along with Christansen, Petersen, and Jacob Morris, took first in a time of 1:39.22. Robert Bennett, Jaxon Durrant, Cody Howard, and Corbin Madsen finished in second.  And in the 400 medley, the team of Brekker Bunnell, Kamron Hanson, Morris, and Daley swam to a second-place finish.

Black had a great day, individually taking first in the 200 free with a time of 2:07.48 and a second-place finish in the 100 fly. Christiansen finished first in the 100 free with his time of 56.99 and came in second in the 20 free. Petersen grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 IM at 2:17.78 and ended the 100-yard breaststroke in second.

Howard had a couple of second-place finishes in the 200 IM and the 100-yard backstroke, and Durant claimed a second-place finish in the 100 free.

The Spartans are back in the pool on Friday when they travel to Moab to face Grand.
