
Mary Ellen Dunn passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 90.
Mary was born March 3, 1935 to Thomas Edward and Hazel Irene Bietel Earney in Albia, Iowa. The family relocated to Hiawatha, Utah, and later moved to Price, where Mary graduated from Carbon High School in 1953.
Mary moved to Long Beach, CA, and married James Alfred Smith. They had three daughters, and later divorced. She married Kay Ellis Dunn and they shared 56 years of marriage. Mary and Kay relocated to Helper, UT in 1971. Mary worked for many years as a pharmacy technician in Smith’s Pharmacy. She enjoyed gardening and maintaining her yard, traveling, camping, collecting antiques, quilting, embroidering, and sewing.
Mary is survived by children, Carol Southards of Price, UT, Debi (Gordon) Odendahl of Helper, UT, Kathy (Kenny) Scott of Lander, WY, Carol Ruth Smith of Grass Valley, CA, Larry Dunn of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Dorothy Rich of Salt Lake City, UT, Roberta Eiden of Mesquite, NV; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Kay Dunn; parents, Thomas and Hazel Earney; sister, Betty Anderson; brothers-in-law, Deloy Anderson, Richard Eiden, and Ronald Rich; and ex-husband, James Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 23, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Helper Auditorium with graveside services to follow.
