On Tuesday evening, the Lady Dinos welcomed the North Sanpete Hawks to “Jurassic Park” for a region tilt. Last week, they opened play against Union with a victory. Against the Hawks, the Lady Dinos fell behind in the second and third quarters and couldn’t recover, falling 55-44.

The Lady Dinos sit at 7-10 overall and 1-1 in region play. They opened with a 45-44 win over the Union Cougars last Tuesday, and they sit at the No. 11 spot in the latest rankings by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association.

Both teams came out ready to roll as each traded baskets with North Sanpete holding a slight edge after one, 13-12. Moving intot the second quarter, the Hawks started to put some distance between themselves and the Dinos, outscoring Carbon 16-11 to take a 29-23 lead into the locker rooms at the half.

In the third, North Sanpete looked to open up their lead a bit more as the Dinos tried to keep the pace. The Hawks had built a 47-35 lead as the two teams headed to the final period. In the fourth, both teams slowed the pace, but it was North Sanpete that kept the heat on the Lady Dinos, methodically doing just enough to hang on to the lead they had built, handing the Dinos a 55-44 loss.

Bailey Johnson led the Lady Dinos, scoring 10 and adding a pair of rebounds and assists along with one steal. Harley Hopes and Natalie Cartwright each scored seven, with Hopes adding four rebounds, and Cartwright adding three. Tayla Orth had 10 rebounds, Emma Bowman had five steals, and Malia Smith had six assists in the loss.

The Lady Dinos jump back into region play on Thursday when they travel to Manti to face the Templars.
