At approximately 7:26 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Helper City Police and Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in the Helper area. Helper PD later confirmed that the fire resulted in the death of 73-year-old Rudy Draper.
“The fire involved a camp trailer and was fully engulfed,” reads a release from the Helper City Police Department. “Once the fire was extinguished, it was discovered an adult male was located inside of the camp trailer deceased.”
“After concluding with the incident, the body of the deceased male was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Taylorsville where the male was positively identified as Rudy Draper, a 73-year-old male, and a local to the Helper area,” said the department in an update post.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office investigated the fire, determining that it was potentially caused by a furnace within the trailer. No foul play is suspected in the incident.
Closing the statement, Helper PD states, “We again want to express our sincerest condolences to the family of Rudy during this trying time.”
No further information regarding the blaze has been released at this time.
