The Carbon Lady Dinos basketball squad was on the road in Roosevelt on Thursday night to face the Union Cougars. Union entered the contest at 10-7 with a 0-4 record in region play and holding on to the number eight spot, while Carbon sat at 8-11. The contest started out fairly even, and then in the later quarters, Union would quietly pull away, coming away with the three-point win, 32-29.

Carbon now sits at 8-12 overall with a 2-3 region mark and holds on to the No. 11 spot in the latest rankings put out by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association, with just three games left on the schedule. Carbon needs to make a move to improve its seeding for the postseason tournament.

On Thursday evening, the game started out very close, with both teams coming out firing and making shots left and right. By the end of the quarter, Union held a slight edge, 15 to 12. In the second quarter, the Lady Dinos became the aggressor, doubling up the Union Cougars by a score of 8-4. Taking a one-point lead into the locker rooms at halftime, 20-19.

Coming out in the second half, both teams were looking to gain an advantage as they matched each other nearly basket-for-basket. Union would put some distance between themselves and the Lady Dinos, but not much, as they recaptured the lead 29-28. In the 4th and final quarter, neither team lit up the scoreboard much, as Carbon scored only one, and Union added three to their total to take a three-point lead and win 32-29.

For the Dinos, Harley Hopes led the way with 10 points in the game. Malia Smith, Bailey Johnson, and Blythe Bradford each scored four in the loss.

Lady Dinos will be off until next Thursday, January 29th, when they will travel to Mount Pleasant to take on the North Sanpete Hawks.

The Hawks are 14-5 overall and ranked No. 2 in the latest rankings. When these two teams met earlier in the season at Carbon, North Sanpete took the game, 55-44.
