Friday evening, the Pinnacle Panther boys basketball squad welcomed the Whitehorse Raiders to Price. Pinnacle led through three quarters, but a big fourth from the Raiders was enough to take the 67-56 win.
The Panthers sit at 8-7 overall and 1-2 in region play, holding the No. 12 spot in the latest rankings from MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association, with five games left in the regular season.
The Panthers were in control in the first half; they created offense and kept just enough space between themselves and the Raiders, taking a 22-17 lead after the first quarter. In the second, Whitehorse came out and matched the Panthers bucket for bucket, but at the half, Pinnacle still led, 37-32.
It was in the third that the Raiders made their move, finding a way around the Panthers’ defense. They were able to cut into the lead, going to the final eight minutes with the Panthers holding on to a 47-46 lead. If the Raiders made their move in the third, they completely took over in the fourth, going on a 21-9 run, closing out the Panthers, and taking the 67-56.
Brody Howell scored 18 for the Panthers. Diego Contreras added 14, and Joey Howell had five in the loss.
The Panthers will get back on the floor on Wednesday when they will travel to Green River to take on the Pirates. Green River comes into the game sitting at 11-7 overall and 4-0 in region play. They sit at No. 7 in the latest rankings.
