The Emery Spartan wrestling team traveled to Roosevelt for the Group B Divisional Round at Union High School over the weekend. Of the 21 wrestlers on the Spartans’ roster, 10 finished eighth or better, qualifying for state competition.
Corbin Brady got things started in the 106-pound division, taking fifth place, going 4-2 over the weekend, winning his final match over Brady Kuehn of Grantsville by pin. Ty Christiansen finished 3-1 in the 120-pound class, ending in fourth place, falling to Chaettan Osborne of North Sanpete by fall in the third-place match. Dixon Peacock in the 126-pound class finished in third place overall, going 3-1, winning his final match over Chase Sorensen of North Sanpete by a 7-4 decision.
Moving to 138 pounds, Ryan Collard finished in third place overall, going 4-1 and earning a win in his final match over Justice Smith of Logan by fall. At 150 pounds, Jasper Allen finished in fifth, going 3-2 and taking a win in the fifth-place match by medical forfeit over Spartan Stradinger of Union. Two wrestlers in the 157-pound class qualified for state. Damon Farley finished in third place, going 3-1 with a win in his final match over Spencer Martinez of Logan, and Chandler Hurst took 7th, going 3-2, taking a win in that match by medical forfeit over Dante Rodriguez of Delta.
Hazen Meccariello earned the lone first place for the Emery Spartans at 190 pounds, going a perfect 3-0, earning a win in the championship match over Jesse Nettle of North Sanpete by pin.
The Spartans will return to the mats on February 4th and 5th, traveling to Richfield and the Sevier Valley Center for the 3A State Championships.
