The Emery Spartans were in Carbon County on Saturday for the final regular-season swim meet, the Last Chance Invite. With 10 teams from across the state competing, both the Emery Spartan boys and the Lady Spartans team finished in second place.

This marked the final regular-season event on the swim calendar, and now the Spartans will look forward to Friday’s Region 13 tournament at the Desert Wave Pool in Price. The State Championships will be held at Brigham Young University on February 13th and 14th.

In the boys division, it was Carbon taking the top spot, followed by Emery in second. Richfield, Union, and Spanish Fork rounded out the top five, with Delta, Grand, North Sanpete, Gunnison, and Juab also competing.

Relays were very popular, as the Spartan boys’ team took first place in two events. In the 200 free relay, the team of Thomas Black, Tyler Daley, Jamison Christiansen, and Trek Petersen finished in 1:34.55 to take first place, and then in the 400 free, it was Black, Daley, Petersen, and Reve Mason turning in a first-place time of 3:27.21. The 200 medley team of Black, Christiansen, Mason, and Petersen finished in second place.

Individually, it was Mason who claimed a pair of first-place finishes. In the 200 free, with a time of 1:58.55, and in the 50 free with a time of 23.86. Petersen finished second in the 50 free.

In the ladies’ division, Spanish Fork claimed the top prize, followed by Emery in second. Carbon, North Sanpete, and Grand rounded out the top five, with Richfield, Union, and Juab also competing.

All the top finishes for the Lady Spartans came in the form of three second-place finishes in three relays. In the 400 free relay, Grace Allen, Emma Grimm, Annie Johansen, and Sydney Lake swam to a second-place finish. Then, in the 200 medley relay, it was Jesse Childs, Hallie Frandsen, Illyria Mason, and Brooklyn O’Neill taking second, the same four Lady Spartans, swam their way to a second-place finish in the 200 free.

The Spartans will now get ready for the Region 13 tournament, which will take place at the Desert Wave Pool on Friday, January 30th. After that, it’s on to the state championships at Brigham Young University in February.
