On Tuesday evening, the Lady Spartan Basketball squad made the trip to Manti to face the Templars. With just three games to go after this one, the Lady Spartans sit in the No. 3 spot in the latest polls and are looking to head into the postseason that will start in a couple of weeks. Emery jumped out early and didn’t look back, taking the victory 47-38.

The Lady Spartans are 11-8 overall with a 4-1 region record, and with games against Union, North Sanpete, and Carbon remaining on the schedule, they are looking to close out the regular season on a high note.

In the first quarter, both teams came out trying to see what the other would do. It was a low-scoring first quarter, but Emery held a slight edge, 8-6. In the second quarter, the Lady Spartans went to work, scoring 16 and tightening their defense, holding Manti to single digits with just eight points, as the Spartans went into the locker room at halftime up 24-14.

In the third, Emery came out and matched the same intensity they had to end the first half, adding 16 more and once again holding Manti to single-digit scoring as the Spartans headed into the final eight minutes of the contest up 40-22. Up 18 in the fourth, the Lady Spartans dialed back their intensity, scoring just seven and allowing 16 to the Templars, but were able to maintain their lead and take the win, 47-38.

Addie Hurst led the way for the Lady Spartans, scoring 12 in the contest. Mikyla Truman had nine, and Aleeyah Cowley added seven in the win.

Emery has just three games left on its schedule before the end of the regular season, with tilts against Carbon, North Sanpete, and Union.

The Lady Spartans will get back at it on Thursday evening when they welcome the Union Cougars to the Spartan Center. Union will enter the contest with an 11-7 record overall, going 1-4 in region play and holding on to the No.8 spot in the latest rankings from MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association. On January 13th, in Roosevelt, Emery took a 48-30 win over the Cougars.
