The Carbon Dinos had 11 student-athletes earn Academic All-State honors during the winter sports season. Student-athletes from girls’ and boys’ basketball, wrestling, swimming, and cheer all received nods for their abilities, not just on the field but also in the classroom.

The honor is awarded using the following criteria found on the Utah High School Activities Association website:

Each sport and activity season, the UHSAA will open nominations through RegisterMyAthlete. Parents/students will enter their RegisterMyAthlete account and click on the Academic All-State tab to enter their unweighted cumulative high school GPA, ACT/SAT score, and submit the nomination form. Schools must confirm that the student-athlete is a varsity contributor, verify the GPA and ACT/SAT score, ensure the student is a senior, and upload a current transcript before submitting the nomination to the UHSAA by the specified deadline. The Academic All-State award will now be decided by either meeting an index score or having a 4.0 unweighted GPA.

Carbon swimming added three names to the list, all Lady Dinos. Avy Atwood, Lily Thayn, and Rachael Blackburn were honored for their contributions in the classroom and the pool.

The Carbon wrestling team also had three honorees. Jenna Pulsipher was the lone Lady Dino to receive the nod, while Cole and Will Hinckley were given mention.

A pair of Lady Dinos and one member of the boys’ basketball squads were given the nod. Bailey Johnson and Harley Hopes from the girls’ team and Carter Warburton on the boys’ squad.

Two members of the Dino cheer squad were singled out for their work at sporting events and in the classroom. Cheyenne Bates and Hallie Nunley both earned recognition.

Congratulations to all Dino student-athletes for their Academic All-State honors.
