
On Wednesday and Thursday, the Emery Spartans traveled to Richfield to take part in the 3A State Championships. The Spartans had four wrestlers finish in the top six, and in the team standings, they claimed ninth place overall.
Hazen Meccariello claimed second place in the 190-pound classification. Dixon Peacock took third at 126 pounds. Ty Christiansen at 120 and Damon Farley at 157 finished in sixth.
Meccariello went 3-1, taking a win by pin in his opening match over Bruce Cornelius of Canyon View. In the next round, he took on McCallister Crowley of Union, winning by pin. In his third match, he faced Isaac Dansie, taking the victory to move into the Championship Match, where he lost by pinfall to Ladd Holman of Juab, claiming second place.
Peacock went 4-1, taking a victory in his first match, where he earned a win over Malokai Rodriguez of Canyon View by pin. Next up was a win over Kayden Smith of Carbon in round two. His third round match was his only loss of the event, coming at the hands of Uriah Anderson of Delta by decision 8-3. Match number four was a win over Chase Sorensen of North Sanpete by a 13-2 major decision. In his final match for third place, Peacock won by pin over Noah Ward of Logan.
At 120 pounds, Ty Christiansen finished in sixth, and at 157, Damon Farley finished sixth as well.
Juab finished atop the team standings, followed by Canyon View in second. Morgan, Delta, and Carbon made up the top five, with Emery finishing in ninth overall.
