Each year, as high school seniors prepare to take their next step into higher education, funding remains a priority. Leaning into their philosophy of people helping people, Eastern Utah Community Credit Union is offering a scholarship to help local students further their education at Utah State University Eastern.

Alex Flores from EUCCU joined the KOAL newsroom to discuss the scholarship and provide instructions on how interested students can apply.

“As a college student myself, I’d say that having scholarships is really important when it comes to affording education and being a part of an organization that can give back to the community and to these students in need,” expressed Flores.

To qualify for the EUCCU scholarship, students must be registered as a full-time student at USU Eastern and an active member of the credit union.

Also, as part of the application process, students must compose two 200-word essays: in the first, they must select an EUCCU core value, explain what it means to them and how it applies to their life, and, in the second, describe how they have contributed to the community or what their academic/career goals are.

“I feel that those values do really define what it means to be part of EUCCU. We really try to embrace all of those,” stated Flores. “And when it comes to interacting with the community, it really is what connects us. And giving back to our members is what matters most, which is ultimately the reason for the scholarship.”

Currently, the credit union plans to award five $1000 scholarships to students.

Applications for the scholarship are currently open and available online at EUCCU.com. Applicants are encouraged to start working through the process sooner rather than later, as the application deadline is March 1.

“For members of our community, it’s really great to follow our socials, to stay on top of opportunities like this, because month to month, we’re always having events and opportunities like this scholarship, trying to just really give back to the community,” closed Flores. “So make sure to follow us on our Instagram and Facebook at EUCCU to stay involved with us.”

The EUCCU Scholarship is currently accepting applicants and will be open until Sunday, March 1. For more information about the credit union and its services, visit the business on Facebook or at EUCCU.com.
