
The Carbon Dinos swim team is getting ready for the State Championships, which will take place Friday and Saturday on the campus of Brigham Young University. 27 Dinos will take part in the two-day event, with preliminaries on Friday and finals on Saturday.
Both Dino teams finished third at the Region 13 Championships on January 30 at the Desert Wave Pool in Price. The top finishers at region move on to the final meet of the season.
For the Lady Dinos, 13 swimmers will take to the pool. In the 200 free, Carbon will send Maya Bower, Rachel Blackburn, Brylie Horsley, and Hannah Erkkila into the pool. In the 200 IM, Lily Thayn and Miley Hansen will compete. Lisa King will be in the pool along with Kanyon Christensen and Josie Jespersen for the 50 free. Thayn and Hansen will take on the field in the 100 butterfly, while King, Jespersen, Avy Atwood, and Kiley Bishoff will be a part of the 100 free. Bower will head back to the pool for the 500 free, along with teammates Blackburn and Horsley. Atwood and Erkkila will compete in the backstroke, while Christensen, Rebekah Trostle, and Savannah Lundgreen compete in the breaststroke.
For the boys, 14 swimmers will make the trip for Carbon. The Dino quartet of Bracken Hanson, Logan Kranendonk, Leland Kespel, and Cohen Sullivan will compete in the 200 free. Ben Anderson, Asher Thayn, and Spencer Hawley will compete for the Dinos in the 200 IM. James Tullis, Cole Arthur, and Carson Taylor will compete in the 50 free for the Dinos, while Kespel, Taylor, and Hawley will face the field in the 100 butterfly. Caden Steele and Carson Bower will take to the pool for the 100 free. Hanson will lead the way for the Dinos in the 500 free along with Kranendonk, Anderson, and Bryker Sackett. Tullis, Thayn, and Steele will be a part of the field in the backstroke. Arthur, Sullivan, Bower, and Ansley Harding will compete for the Dinos in the breaststroke.
