Looking to give back to an organization that gave him a second chance at life, local author Gary Motte is celebrating Heart Health Awareness Month by donating 10% of sales of his book ‘The Little Red Fergie’ to Primary Children’s Hospital.

When he was born in 1952, it was discovered that Motte had a hole in the left ventricle of his heart. He struggled with this until age six, when he was taken into Primary Children’s Hospital for surgery to repair his heart, giving him a new lease on life.

Speaking of the donations to Primary Children’s, Motte explained,” To start with, we’re going to give them 10 books, and we’re going to give them 10% of all sales in February. And that was an idea I had after it was actually published. And our illustrator and publisher thought it was a really, really good idea, because she had spent time there herself, and her son had spent time there.”

Motte’s book, “The Little Red Fergie,” is a tale that will resonate with all generations, especially those raised in the world of agriculture. “It started with my dad, sitting down and writing all of his childhood memories. And so I started doing the same thing. And one night, I decided to write this story. And it’s actually his last tractor that I wrote about. And there is a picture in the book with me, my mom, and my dad standing in front of the tractor.”

To help promote the book and his charitable efforts, Motte is hosting a book signing event on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Price City Library from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event while supplies last.

Giving credit to the book’s illustrator, Motte shared,” Breyanna Evans, I want to thank her, because she has done a marvelous job with the illustration, and promoting it. We actually went up to Park City for a book signing with her. And so, she’s been really good. I appreciate her for the world.”

In addition to the Price City Library event, copies of the “Little Red Fergie” can be purchased at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Walmart.com.
