The Utah State Eastern baseball team hit the road for a week-long trip to Arizona. The first stop on the trip was in Coolidge, Arizona, to take on the Central Arizona Vaqueros.
In the first game of the weekend, the Eagles were unable to find a groove offensively. Logan Burgess hit a double in the game, but it was a Jake Lindsay sacrifice fly that pushed across Eastern’s lone run in the game. The Eagles fell 8-1 in game one.
Behind a stellar, six-strikeout performance from Makaio Swensen, the Eagles were able to rebound from the loss, defeating Central Arizona, 8-2. The Eagles walked 12 times and scored their eight runs on nine hits. Reid Deede, Cam Ford, and Ashton Burnett each had two hits in the performance.
Day two of action started with the Eagles being defeated 11-1 in a run-rule loss. The Eagles made three errors, allowing the Vaqueros to capitalize on extra opportunities. Peyton Adams and Truman Duryea had the Eagles’ only hits in the contest.
In an attempt to finish the series in a split, the Eagles battled for the fourth game of the season. Jake Lindsay and Bentley Crook each hit a solo home run, but the Eagles were unable to keep up. Eastern fell, 6-3.
The next stop on the road trip is a visit to Douglas, Arizona, to take on the Cochise College Apaches. Games will be played on Thursday and Friday, with a doubleheader scheduled for each day.
