The Pinnacle Panthers welcomed Green River to the gym on Wednesday evening as the Lady Panthers celebrated one of their own on Senior Night. The Lady Pirates were facing their final game of the regular season and were still searching for their first win. Though it was a battle, Green River secured a 41-37 victory over Pinnacle.

The Panthers have one contest left in the regular season on Friday at Monticello, so the game with Green River was the final home game of the regular season, and Pinnacle singled out Sabre Craig, the lone senior on this season’s squad, thanking her for her contributions to Panther athletics.

This was the second time these two teams had clashed this season. Back on January 28 in Green River, the Panthers came away with a 49-29 victory. Green River was looking to split the season series on Wednesday.

In the opening quarter, the two teams found out just how evenly matched they were as the contest went back and forth, but Green River held a slight advantage after the first quarter, 11-9. The offense for both squads was a little stagnant in the second as the two teams combined for nine points, but Pinnacle had cut into the Green River lead as the Lady Panthers headed to the locker room at halftime down by just one, 15-14.

Coming out in the third, Pinnacle turned up the defense coming out and outscoring the Pirates to swing momentum and take a three-point lead at 28-25. The Pirates knew they had to turn up the intensity on both sides of the ball if they wanted to earn the win, and that is exactly what they did as they went on to outscore Pinnacle 16-9 in the quarter to grab their first win of the season 41-37.

Mattie Meadows led the way for the Pirates with 12. Quianna Quintana had 10, and Haylie Nelson scored eight in the win.

There were no stats available for Pinnacle at the time of writing the article.

Next up for the Lady Panthers is a Friday night road game against Monticello. In the first contest between the two squads, the Buckaroo came away with a 68-19 win in Price.

On Monday, MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association will release the final rankings and bracket for the 1A State Championships, which begin on February 17.
