On Friday and Saturday, the swim teams from across the state in the 3A classification met at Brigham Young University to close out the season at the State Championships. Both Spartan squads finished in the top five, with the boys taking third and the Lady Spartans fourth.

Canyon View finished in the top spot in the boys’ divsion scoring 353 points, Union finished second with 317. Emery landed in third with 272 points as Carbon (201.5) and Ogden (199) rounded out the top five.

The 200 free relay brought the Spartans their only state title of the meet as the team of Trek Petersen, Jamison Christiansen, Reve Mason, and Thomas Black earned the top spot in a time of 1:31.61, almost five full seconds ahead of Canyon View (1:36.51). In the 200 medley, Emery finished in second with their time of 1:40.31, just off the pace set by Canyon View with their first-place time of 1:39.07. The Spartans claimed sixth in the 400 free.

Individually, the Spartans earned seven top-five finishes, with Black claiming second place in the backstroke and a fourth-place finish in the 50 free. Petersen claimed second place in the breaststroke and fourth in the 100 free. Mason ended the championships with a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 IM and the butterfly. Christiansen came in fifth and Brekker Bunnell eighth in the backstroke.

Canyon View grabbed the top spot in the girls division as well, with a dominant performance, scoring 509 points. Union finished second with 248.5. Carbon (241) took third with Emery scoring 224 points for fourth. Logan landed in fifth with 158.

Emery had a pair of top-three finishes in relays. In the 200 medley, they finished second with a time of 2:02.31, and in the 200 free, the Lady Spartans finished third with a time of 1:49.82. They also claimed a sixth-place finish in the 400 free.

Illyria Mason grabbed two top-three finishes for Emery. In the backstroke, she would take second with a time of 1:05.52, just over a second behind Canyon View’s Gracie Taylor and her time of 1:04.06. In the shortest event, the 50 free, her time of 26.15 was enough for third. Hallie Frandsen earned a second-place finish in the butterfly, turning in a time of 1:04.94, which was just off the pace set by Canyon View’s Syndi Lauer and her time of 1:33.66. Grace Allen and Brooklyn O’Neil would each claim an eighth-place finish in the backstroke and breaststroke, respectively.
