On Friday morning, the Lady Spartans would take to the floor to face the North Sanpete Hawks.  This was the third time this season these two teams locked horns, with North Sanpete coming away with a win on both occasions. It’s very difficult to beat a good team three times, and the Lady Spartans came out ready for the Hawks, but unfortunately, North Sanpete would end the Spartans’ season, 46-39.

The opening quarter started out quietly as the Hawks got on the board first to take a 2-0 lead at the 7:00 mark. North Sanpete held the lead at 7-5 with just a few minutes left in the period. The Lady Spartans went on the offensive to take the lead 11-7 heading to the second.

North Sanpete opened up the next period, going on a 5-0 run to take the lead back with just under 6:30 left. After a timeout, Kabree Gordon drove the lane, getting fouled, but not before she scored and hit the and one to take the lead back for Emery 14-12. North Sanpete would close out the quarter with another 5-0 run, beginning with less than one minute left, to take a 19-16 lead into the halftime break.

In the third, the Hawks came out looking to take over the game after a minute had passed. North Sanpete had pushed its lead to 24-16, causing coach Jon Faimalo to call a timeout. The Lady Spartans would keep trying to overtake the Hawks, going back and forth, but just when Emery would get close, the Hawks would pull away. With around two minutes left, Aleeyah Cowley would get the Lady Spartans within one at 28-27 with her first bucket of the contest, but the Hawks would pull away once again, closing out the quarter with a 37-30 lead.

In the final eight minutes, North Sanpete came out early, and before the Lady Spartans knew it, they were down by 10. Emery would get within five with around twenty seconds left, but that would be it as the Hawks closed the door on the Lady Spartans’ season, 46-39.

Gordon led Emery with 11 points and six rebounds. Megan Stilson had seven with three rebounds, three assists, and Mikyla Truman had six in the loss.

Emery ends the season at 14-11 overall and went 6-2 in region play. This marks the last time a very special class of seniors, Carlie and Addie Hurst, Megan Stilsonm and Kabree Gordon shared the court as Spartans.
