On Sophomore Day, the Utah State Eastern women’s basketball team welcomed the Salt Lake Community College Bruins for their final regular-season home game of the 2026 season.
The first quarter of the contest was low-scoring. After falling behind by seven early in the quarter, the Eagles battled to cut the SLCC lead to just three points at the end of the first quarter. Eastern trailed 11-8.
In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to work from behind, attempting to flip the lead from the Bruins. By the end of the first half, Eastern found themselves trailing 23-19 heading into the break.
Three different Eagles recorded four points in the half to lead Eastern at the break.
Halfway through the third quarter, the Eagles worked back into the game, tying the score at 26. However, Salt Lake pulled off a 13-3 run to close out the quarter, and Eastern quickly found themselves down 39-29 as the quarter ended.
In the final ten minutes of the game, Eastern saw SLCC’s lead grow to 14 points before clawing back. With two minutes left, the Eagles trimmed SLCC’s lead to just two points, but SLCC’s 7-2 run sealed the game. Eastern fell 52-45.
Skylie Barker was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 12 points.
Next for Eastern is a trip to Twin Falls to take on the College of Southern Idaho. A win in that game gives Eastern a shot at winning the Scenic West Athletic Conference title.
The game is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, at 5:00 p.m.
