The Utah State Eastern baseball team traveled to Trinidad, Colorado, to take on the Trinidad State College Trojans in a four-game series. Because of the weather, the games were moved to Saturday and Sunday, when they were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
In game one, the Eagles scored a run thanks to a few Trojan miscues on defense. Offensively, the Eagles were unable to generate runs until the seventh inning. After entering the inning down 5-1, the Eagles scored two to cut the Trinidad State lead to 5-3. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be the final score, falling 5-3.
Peyton Adams led the Eagles with a 2-4 performance at the plate, while Harley Vicchrilli recorded seven strikeouts on the mound.
The second game of the series was a high-scoring affair. After Trinidad scored 11 runs in the fourth inning, the Eagles found themselves down 15-5 heading into the fifth inning. The Eagles scored eight runs in the next two innings and managed to cut TSC’s lead to two runs, 17-15, at the start of the ninth inning. The Eagles scored one in the frame, but fell short, 17-16.
The Eagles had 16 hits in the game, including 10 extra-base hits. Peyton Adams went 4-7 with two doubles and a homerun.
Sunday brought a new day, and Eastern started the game on a hot streak. After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles scored in five-straight innings, taking an 8-5 lead into the seventh inning. Trinidad State hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 8, and they then walked off the Eagles in the bottom of the eighth.
Truman Duryea and Bentley Crook homered in the game, and multiple players recorded two hits.
Game four went the Eagles’ way from the beginning. Despite a two-run deficit after the first inning, the Eagles rattled off 16 unanswered runs to run-rule the Trojans, 16-2.
Tyce Abbott hit a grand slam as part of a five-RBI performance. Truman Duryea dominated on the mound, tossing a five-inning, eight-strikeout complete game.
Next for the Eagles is their first home game of the 2026 season. They will play seven games in four days against Community Christian College and Treasure Valley Community College. Games will begin on Friday against Community Christian.
