The Carbon Dino baseball team was back on the diamond Thursday evening to take on the Duchesne Eagles. Carbon had been on the field earlier, taking on Virgin Valley, and was looking to right the wrongs of the contest. Carbon got on the board first and, behind the arm of Xander Pappas, held the Eagles off the board, taking a 4-0 win.

Earlier on Thursday, the Dinos faced the Virgin Valley Bulldogs, a team from Mesquite. The Bulldogs turned in a dominant performance, taking advantage of Carbon’s missteps on their way to a 16-0 win. Carbon was looking for redemption against Duchesne.

The Dinos held the Eagles off the board in the top of the first, and in the bottom half of the inning, with one out, Jordan Nichols got on base behind a grounder to left field. Adrian Vasquez came to the plate with a pair of outs, sending a fly ball to center, driving in Nichols. The inning closed with the Dinos taking a 1-0 lead.

All bats went quiet for the next two innings, and Carbon kept Duchesne off the board in the top of the fourth. The Dinos found their offense again in the bottom of the frame.

Logan Bennett got things going for Carbon by drawing a walk as the first batter. Nichols came up to bat next, sending one into the outfield that drove Bennett home, and Nichols would advance to third. The next batter up was Cash Withers, and during his at-bat, Nichols scored on a wild pitch with Withers drawing a walk.  Maddux Willson stepped up to the plate with one out and flew out to the second baseman, but it was just enough time for Withers to tag up at third and score. The inning and the game would end with the Dinos holding a 4-0 lead.

Nichols led the way for the Dinos, going 2-3, scoring two runs, and driving in one. Vasquez was 1-3 with an RBI, Brady Ware went 1-3, and Jacen Urbanik was 1-2. Wilson collected an RBI, and Withers and Bennett each scored one in the win for Carbon.

Pappas earned a complete game win for Carbon, surrendering one hit and striking out seven batters along the way.
