The Carbon Dinos headed back to the diamond on Friday afternoon in Mesquite to take on the Enterprise Wolves. This would be the third game in two days, and the Dinos entered the contest at 1-1. After an explosive first inning that saw the Dinos put six runs on the board, including a pair of home runs, Carbon would hold on to take the 10-7 win.

Carbon opened the weekend with a loss to host Virgin Valley and then turned around and earned a win in their contest with Duchesne.

The game with Enterprise saw the Wolves get on the board early, putting up two in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, Logan Bennett got things off to a good start with a leadoff homerun. With one out, Cash Withers would come to the plate and send a line drive to center. After a Maddux Willson walk, Ricky Sandoval came up to the plate, and in his at-bat, Withers would score on an error by the catcher, and Sandoval would reach on an error by the second baseman. Brody Ware sent a fly ball to left field, and Willson scored on the throw, and Sandoval advanced to second. Paxton Falk came up and sent one deep over the left field wall, driving in Ware and Sandoval to put the Carbon lead at 6-2 as the teams headed to the second inning.

After holding the Wolves off the scoreboard in the top half of the inning, Carbon went back to work offensively in the bottom. Nichols would get on base with a leadoff double. Withers was up next and sent a fly ball to left, driving in Nichols. The Dinos would close out the inning and go into the third up 7-2.

The Wolves added a pair of runs to go up 7-4, and in the Dinos’ at bat, Jacen Urbanik got on first with a line drive single to left. The next batter, Karsen Sandoval, sent a grounder to left, advancing Curtis Jones, who entered the game as a courtesy runner for Urbanik, to second. Bennett, who had already hit a home run in the first, came up once again, this time hitting a double and bringing home Jones and Karsen Sandoval to put the Dinos up 9-4.

Things would get interesting in the fourth when the Wolves would close the gap to get the score to 9-7. In the bottom of the inning, with a pair of outs and Ware on base, Falk hit one and would reach on an error by the center fielder, advancing to second and driving Ware in to put the Dinos on top 10-7. The Dinos would retire the side at the top of the fifth and claimed a 10-7 win to go to 2-1 on the weekend.

Bennett went 2-4, scoring one run and driving in three for Carbon. Falk went 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Withers was 2-3 in the game with a run and an RBI, Ware collected a pair of hits with two runs scored, and drove in one. Nichols collected one hit, scoring one run, Urbanik went 2-2 at the plate, and Karsen Sandoval was 1-1 with a run scored. Ricky Sandoval and Willson each scored a run in the win.

Kanyon Grant would get the start on the bump for Carbon, going four and giving up seven runs, six earned on seven hits, and striking out four. Nichols came in to close the game and gave up no runs or hits, striking out three.

The Dinos will now turn around and face the San Juan Broncos this evening at 5:00 p.m.
