The Carbon High School track and field squad got back to work last Saturday in Moab for the Grand Invitational. Grand is traditionally the kickoff for the track and field season for high school, and the Carbon boys’ squad finished second overall, with the Lady Dinos finishing in third.

In the boys division, Cedar Valley took the top spot, followed by Carbon. Union, San Juan, and Manti rounded out the top five.

Carbon was able to claim top finishes in two relays. In the 4×100 relay, Carter Branch, Dawson Johnson, Dexter Packard, and Benjamin Sims ran to a first-place time of 45.18. The Carbon boys’ team of Evan Criddle, Tyke Criddle, Dallin Humes, and Michael Weber finished with a time of 3:41.06 seconds, putting them in first place as well.

In individual events, Packard took the top spot in the long jump at 21-2.5, and Weber took the top spot in the 800 with 2:02.64, and Humes finished second in the 800

On the girls’ side, the Union Cougars landed in first place, with the host team Grand taking second. Carbon, Cedar Valley, and Emery rounded out the top five of 12 teams that competed.

Rozlyn Stowe got back to work, collecting three top finishes, including a new school record and one second-place finish. In the 1600 meters, she earned a new school record and first place with a time of 4:58.73. In the 800, she recorded another first-place finish at 2:15.61, and in the 3200, her final top finish was 11:00.67. Her only second-place finish came in the 400 at 1:01.07. Josie Yates finished second in the 3200, and Blythe Bradford finished second in the long jump.

The Lady Dinos team of Bradford, Natalie Cartwright, Avy Davis, and Naomi Smith finished second in the 4×100 relay.

The Dinos will now welcome schools from throughout the area to Carbon High School on Saturday for the annual Farm Bureau Invitational.
