The Spartans spent the first weekend of the boys soccer season in St George, taking part in the annual tournament. Entering the weekend at 1-1 overall, the Spartans would play two games in 2 days, getting started on Friday against Snow Canyon, where they were handed a 7-1 loss. On Saturday, they woke up to face the Enterprise Wolves and came out on top with a 5-1 victory.

Spartans began the season with a win at home over the Beaver Beavers. They followed that up two days later with a loss to the Delta Rabbits and then headed to St George for two days of tournament play.

They started the weekend by taking on the Snow Canyon Warriors, a 4A team from St George. Snow Canyon had the Spartans’ number all game and came away with a 7-1 victory.

The Warriors came out quickly in the first half, putting five goals on the scoreboard and defensively holding the Spartans scoreless as they went into the locker room at halftime up 5-0. In the second half, Emery got on the board off the foot of Ryker Sermon, with an assist from Seth Winter; however, the Warriors added a pair of goals and took the win 7-1.

On Saturday, the Spartans faced the Enterprise Wolves. Emery was the aggressor from the beginning of the contest, taking a 5-1 victory.

In the opening half, Emery came out and got on the board quickly, doubling up the Wolves to take a 2-1 lead by halftime. Emery came out in the second and put Enterprise away, scoring three goals and holding them out of the back of the net, securing a 5-1 victory.

Winter led the way for the Spartans with a pair of goals. Corbin Ward scored one, Ryker Sermon had one and an assist, and Marcelo Gordilho had one and an assist. Peyton Sermon added two assists, and Chaz Sorensen had one in the win for Emery.

Road for their next five games starting on Tuesday when they travel to Grantsville to take on the Cowboys.
