Riding an eight-game win streak, the Utah State Eastern baseball team remained at home for a three-game set against the Community Christian College Saints, their second meeting in the last two weeks.
The Eagles opened the series with a run-rule 18-6 win over the Saints, capped off by a three-run home run by Jake Lindsay. Reid Deede went 4-4 with two home runs and a triple. Jace Olsen, Jake Lindsay, and Logan Burgess all homered in the contest. Kade Newman and Marshall Hansen combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound.
Game two was another dominant performance for Eastern. Behind the arm of Kayson Bailey, who recorded 12 strikeouts in five innings, the Eagles run-ruled the Saints, 10-0. Eastern had 12 hits in the game.
The final game of the series was the closest contest of the series, as the Saints held a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. With runners on first and second, Makaio Swensen hit a walk-off three-run home run to give Eastern the 7-5 win. The win completed the CCC sweep and gave Eastern its 11th straight win.
Next for the Eagles is a mid-week matchup against the Okotoks Dawgs. The doubleheader will be played on Wednesday, Mar. 11, at Ernie Gardner Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
