The Dino boys’ tennis squad was on the road on Tuesday in Manti to take on the Templars in the season opener. Falling in just one match of five, Carbon was able to get 2026 off on the right foot with the 4-1 victory.

The Dinos are looking to build on last season, which saw all members make it to the second day of the State Championships.

Zander Carrillo gathered a win in second singles with a straight set victory over Kannon Christiansen. After battling through the first set for the 7-6 (7-3) win, Carrillo came back in the second set to blank Christiansen 6-0.

Moving into the third singles, Oliver Steele faced Evan Lambourne.  After a pair of hard-fought sets, Steele came out on top 6-4 and 6-3.

Moving into doubles play, the Carbon duo of Judson Varner and Carter Abbott squared up with Trace Johnson and Cole Wintch. Varner and Abbott went on to take the straight set victory 6-1 and 6-2.

Rylen Hatch and Aiden Pilling found themselves in a dogfight in the first set of their match with Dylan Hirschi and Don Wood, with the pair of Dinos coming out on top 7-6 (7-5). They had a much easier time in set two with the 6-0 win.

The Dinos will be back to work on Wednesday for the home opener when they welcome Richfield to the courts in Price.

Matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
