Last Friday, the Carbon boys’ tennis squad headed to Vernal to take part in the Uintah Invitational. Carbon started the season with back-to-back wins, but suffered its first loss on Friday against host Uintah. They would go on to win later Friday over Deseret Peak. On Saturday, they would take a loss to Logan.

Carbon collected a win in its first match of the season on the road in Manti. They then turned around and, in the home opener, took the win over Richfield.

In their matches with the Utes, Carbon was outmatched, losing all matches in straight sets. Carbon would need to regroup and prepare for Deseret Peak.

After the loss to Uintah, the Dinos would switch things up a bit and came away with the 3-2 victory over Deseret Peak.

Carbon would drop both the first and second single matches, but went on a sweep after that, with Alden Pilling getting the Dinos on the board, taking a straight set win over Deseret Peak’s Dallin Christiansen, 6-0 and 6-2.

The first doubles team of Zander Carrillo and Levi King collected a straight-set win, 6-3 and 6-0, over Grant Spencer and Everett Ellsworth. In second doubles, Judson Varner and Carter Abbott defeated Landon Fretias and Casten Baxter 6-1 and 6-2.

On Saturday, they faced the Logan Grizzlies, falling in all but one match 4-1.

The only win came in the third singles match when Oliver Steele came out on top in a three-set match marathon, with Peter Heaton taking a win in set one 6-2, but then falling in set two 6-1. The third and final set went the distance and then some with Steele collecting the 14-12 win.

The Dinos will get back to work on Tuesday when they travel to Monroe to face South Sevier.
