On Wednesday, the Carbon Dinos made the trip to West Valley to take on the Hunter Wolverines. After falling in their last four contests, Carbon was looking to get back into the win column and did just that against the Wolverines, holding them scoreless to take the 14-0 win.
The Dinos fell in a heartbreaker to East the last time they were on the field in their home opener and were looking to shake the dust off and put that behind them as they headed north to take on Hunter.
Lead off batter Logan Bennett got things going for the Dinos in the top of the first as he sent a ground ball to the second baseman. Up next was Jordan Nichols, who sent a triple to right field, driving Bennett in. Cash Withers came up after that, sending a double to right field, driving in Nichols to put Carbon up 2-0 before they even had their first out. With one out on the board, Brody Ware sent one to deep left field, driving in Cash Withers to get the Dinos to 3-0, and that’s where the scoring would end as the next batter up hit into a double play.
After a quick half inning for Hunter, the Dinos got back to work with two outs on the board. Withers sent a single to right field, driving in Bennett and Kanyon Grant. The next batter up was Paxton Falk, who sent a hard grounder to left, driving in Nichols and Withers to put the Dinos up 7-0.
In the top of the fourth, with bases loaded and one out, Jacen Urbanik hit a ground ball and reached on an error by the third baseman, bringing Falk in to score. Up to bat next was Grant, who was hit by a pitch, bringing home Adrian Vasquez. Bennett would step into the batter’s box, sending one to the shortstop, hitting into a fielder’s choice, which allowed Maddux Willson to score, and the Dinos would add two more runs after that, getting the score to 14-0, taking the win in five innings.
Ware went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in the contest, and Falk was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Withers was 2-3 with three RBIs, scoring two runs, and Bennett was 1-3 with three runs scored and an RBI in the win.
Willson got the start on the mound, going three innings and allowing no hits and no runs, striking out four. Withers closed out the contest with three hits and three strikeouts.
The Dinos will get back on the diamond and on the road on Friday when they travel looking for a little bit of revenge to take on the East Leopards.
