On Wednesday, the Lady Dino softball team made the trip to Moab to face the Grand County Red Devils. Looking to get back in the win column, the Dinos found themselves in a battle, but came up just short, falling to Grand 7-6.

The Dinos sit at 4-4 overall and are 0-1 in region play, coming off a loss to the Manti Templars on Tuesday after winning their last three before that at the St. George Tournament last weekend.

Carbon would get on the board in the top of the first as Sienna Alderson would send a fly ball to right field, reaching base on an error and driving Brailee Peterson home. This was the beginning of a trend in the contest as Grand would tie things up, and then in the second, the Lady Dinos would take the lead back as Harli Heugly would score on a wild pitch.

After keeping the Red Devils off the board in the second, Carbon came out to take a two-run lead, as it was again Alderson driving in Aleece Ardohain with a double to left. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Grand would tie things up at 3-3.

The Lady Dinos were back to work in the fourth as Kennlee Kennedy brought in Bella Nelson, and once again they kept Grand at bay, and once again the Dinos would capitalize, ending the fifth with a 5-3 lead off of an Ardohain score on a passed ball, however the Red Devils would score two in the bottom of the frame to tie things up 5-5.

In their next at bat, it was Grand’s turn to keep Carbon off the board this time. Grand would come up once again in the bottom half of the inning, and this time they would send one over the left field wall to score two and go up 7-5.

In the top of the seventh, Ardohain would get on base with a single to center, as Peterson came up to the plate and drew a walk, Ardohain had worked her way around to third. Alderson would come to the plate next and look at her first two pitches. During her second pitch, Peterson stole second, which gave Ardohain the opportunity to pull off a daring steal of home, cutting the Grand lead to one. Unfortunately, that was where the Carbon rally ended, as the next three batters recorded three outs, and Carbon fell to Grand, 7-6.

Ardohain went 2-3 in the game with three runs, and Kennlee Kennedy was 1-3 with a pair of RBIs. Alderson was 1-3 with an RBI, and Heugly went 1-3 with a run in the loss.

Kadence Vea got the start on the mound, giving up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits while striking out five.

The Lady Dinos will take to the field in their home opener on Friday when they welcome North Sanpete. Gametime is set for 3:30 p.m.
