Serving as one of the premier engineering firms in the Castle Country, Jones & DeMille had reason to celebrate on Thursday, March 19, as the firm hosted a community open house to celebrate the opening of its expanded full-service materials testing laboratory.
As a part of the celebration, the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce was present to christen the expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We’re really excited about this materials lab. We’ve always had some ability to do some minor materials testing while we’ve been in the area, but we’ve expanded to be able to do a lot more asphalt testing, concrete testing and other materials used in construction for civil engineering,” explained Office Manager Daniel Hawley.
Present at the affair were major clients of the business, including representatives from Price City and Carbon County.
Speaking to Castle Country Radio, Hawley gave a more in-depth look at what the lab expansion will be used for: “Mainly for materials testing, but one of the things that we’ve expanded to is the ability to test asphalt for Paving projects and additional testing on the aggregate materials, mainly for road construction.”
Diving deeper, Hawley shared what this process entails,” We’ll sample the asphalt right as it’s being paved, bring it in and actually put it in our oven that will heat it up to burn out all the oil in the asphalt. That helps us understand oil content in the asphalt, and whether or not that asphalt will hold up for the life of the roadway and the paving that’s needed.”
The addition marks the newest service that Jones & DeMille can offer, an addition that Hawley shared excitement for,” it’s just an added service that we’ve wanted in the area. We’ve done a lot of road projects out here, and being able to do this testing quickly and efficiently for the contractors is an added benefit to help them out so they can get their job done as quickly as possible.”
