Dino baseball made the trip to Manti on Friday to take on the Templars. After coming up short in their meeting at home earlier in the week, Carbon was looking for a better outcome on the road. The Templars put together a five-run fifth to close out Carbon 7-6.

On Tuesday, at the diamond at Carbon High, the Templars claimed the win in the Dinos region opener, 7-3. The Dinos sit at 6-8 overall and are still searching for that first region victory at 0-2. The initial rankings for baseball compiled by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association are set to be released on Thursday, April 2.

Both teams played through a scoreless first, then in the second, Logan Bennett came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out, sending a grounder to the shortstop that would bring Maddux Willson in to score. Jordan Nichols came to the plate next, and with the bases still full, was sent to first on a catcher’s interference that brought Adrian Vasquez in, giving the Dinos a 2-0 lead. Manti would score at the bottom of the third inning, cutting the Carbon lead in half. The Templars kept the Dinos off the board for an inning and a half as they added five runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 6-2.

Moving into the top of the sixth, Carbon found some offense, starting with Marcus Vigil scoring on a wild pitch during Nichols at bat. Up next for the Dinos was Cash Withers, who sent a fly ball to center, driving in Jackson Bosone and Bennett, getting the Dinos within one, 6-5. The Dinos were able to tie things up at the top of the seventh as Brody Ware scored on an error during Jacen Urbanik’s at-bat. Manti added one in the final at-bat, taking the 7-6 win.

Vasquez was 4-4 with a run scored for Carbon. Bennett went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored, and Withers was 2-4 with two RBIs. Ware went 1-4, scoring one in the loss.

Xander Pappas got the start, going 4.1 with three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out two. Nichols finished out the game on the mound with four earned runs on five hits and struck out one.

The Dinos are back on the diamond on Thursday, April 2, as they welcome the Salem Hills Skyhawks to Price.

Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
