The Emery Spartan track squad made the trip to Roosevelt to participate in the Strata Invitational over the weekend. Of the 11 schools that competed, the Emery boys claimed the 8th spot, tied with Altamont, and the Lady Spartans finished fourth. Emery’s Skylee Guymon claimed another state record by besting her own time in the 300 M hurdles.

Host team Union claimed the top spot in the girls’ division, followed by Uintah. Carbon claimed third, followed by Emery and Juan Diego.

Guymon had a big day for the Lady Spartans with two first-place finishes and one second-place finish. In the 100-meter hurdles, she led the pack with a time of 14.20. Then, breaking her own state record she had set in the opening meet of the season in Moab in the 300-meter hurdles with a new time of 41.83, breaking her old record of 42.45. She went on to finish second in the 100 m.

The other Lady Spartan with the top finish was Molly Christiansen, who took second in the 400.

In the boys’ division, Carbon claimed the top spot, followed by Uintah in second place. Host Union, Juan Diego, and Big Piney rounded out the top five. Emery ended the day tied for eighth with Altamont.

Emery had three top-five finishes in the boys’ division.

Zander Robinson claimed a fourth-place finish in the 400 in a field of over 30 competitors, while Brek Griffin placed fourth in the 100 out of over 80 student athletes.  Skylen Cox claimed fifth out of over 40 other hurlers in the discus.

The Spartans will be off until Saturday, April 4, when they will travel to Orem for the Timpanogos Alpha Invitational
