
On Friday, the Carbon Dino track and field squad, along with 10 other schools from throughout the region, traveled to Roosevelt to participate in the Strata Invitational. The boys’ squad finished the day with a top finish while the Lady Dinos took third.
In the boys’ division, Carbon was followed by Uintah in second place. Host Union, Juan Diego, and Big Piney rounded out the top five.
The Carbon boys’ team had some standout performances, starting with Carter Branch, who claimed two first-place finishes in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.64; he also took first in the 300 hurdles, turning in a 42.36. Dallin Humes captured a top finish in the 400 with a time of 53.01. He was also part of the second-place 4×400 relay. Matthew Stromness took the top prize in the 3200 at 10:32.90. In other track competition, Michael Weber claimed a pair of second-place finishes in the 1600 and was part of the 4×400 relay team. Bracken Hanson claimed second place behind Stromness in the 3200. Evan Criddle took second in the 800 and was a team member of the 4×400 second-place team. The 4×400 team was rounded out by Tanner Harker. The Carbon team of Dominick Fox, Seth Jenson, Danny North, and Samuel Wilson earned a top finish in the sprint medley relay with their time of 3:59.05.
Dexter Packard claimed two top finishes in field events, taking first in the long jump at 21-08.0 and in the javelin at 148-1.0.
Host team Union claimed the top spot in the girls’ division, followed by Uintah. Carbon claimed third, followed by Emery and Juan Diego.
The Lady Dino sprint relay team of Gabriella Bonaquisto, Harley Jones, Brettlee Kennedy, and Maddox Wood claimed first place with their time of 4:53.57. In the 4×100 relay, Blythe Bradford, Avy Davis, Malia Smith, and Naomi Smith finished in second.
In distances, Rozlyn Stowe finished in second place in the 1600 with a time of 5:02.42. Josie Yates went on to take first in the 3200 with her time of 12:13.56.
The Dinos will be back at it on Friday, April 3, when they travel to Nephi for the Juab Invitational.
